Bulls' Paxson says team not planning to add guard
There's always Kirk Hinrich. There will never not be Kirk Hinrich.
That appears to be the stance the Chicago Bulls are taking in the wake of Derrick Rose's latest injury, a torn right medial meniscus that will sideline him for four-to-six weeks.
Despite a handful of point guards being available on the open market, the Bulls, who have a roster spot open, aren't planning to shore up their guard depth, executive John Paxson said Friday.
Earlier reports had suggested the Bulls may move to bring in a point guard familiar with the organization, like frequent visitor Mike James, the recently-waived Jannero Pargo, or Nate Robinson, who's said to have interest in re-joining head coach Tom Thibodeau's team.
Instead, the Bulls will forge ahead with Hinrich and Aaron Brooks, who started Wednesday in Rose's stead. The offensive burden will shift some to Jimmy Butler while Brooks - averaging 10.6 points in 20.1 minutes - will add a spark at that end, too.
Hinrich has struggled mightily this season manning either guard spot, averaging 6.5 points in 26.7 minutes and shooting 37.1 percent from the field.
It's unclear why the Bulls would be hesitant to add a player, as they're not in danger of reaching the luxury-tax threshold and have the open roster spot.
