The Calgary Flames will have to try to make the playoffs without their captain.
Flames defenseman Mark Giordano needs surgery to repair a torn biceps tendon and will miss the remainder of the season.
Giordano suffered the injury late in a game against the New Jersey Devils last Wednesday. He recorded a career-high 48 points in 61 games, putting him on pace to challenge for the Norris Trophy as the league's top blue-liner prior to the injury.
The surgery is scheduled for Wednesday.
