Nets' Teletovic hopes he will be ready to play in 6 months
Brooklyn Nets forward Mirza Teletovic is on schedule for a return next season after recovering from potentially life-threatening blood clots in his lungs.
Teletovic spoke prior to the Nets' game against the Golden State Warriors Monday, telling reporters he should be ready to play in six months. The Bosnian power forward also disclosed that doctors are 80 percent certain the clots originated from a hip pointer injury he suffered on Dec. 8 against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Teletovic missed three games in the wake of that injury before returning to action. The Nets' medical staff diagnosed him with a pulmonary embolism on Jan. 22.
It's scary to consider run-of-the-mill athletic injuries directly causing life-threatening conditions, and the 29-year-old Teletovic is clearly relieved the issue was resolved in time.
Chris Bosh of the Miami Heat is also out for the season due to blood clots in his lungs, and two weeks ago former NBA player Jerome Kersey died as a result of a blood clot that formed in his leg.
Teletovic, a restricted free agent this offseason, averaged 8.5 points and 4.9 rebounds a game before the issue. He added Monday that he wants to be back in Brooklyn next year.
