Ujiri says a Canadian will play for Raptors, stands by 'F--k Brooklyn' comment
Raptors general manager Masai Ujiri had some interesting things to say about his team - and the Brooklyn Nets - as a panelist at the Canadian Basketball Speakers Forum on Monday night in Toronto.
Ujiri discussed the incredible growth of basketball not only in Toronto but throughout Canada, saying he can't imagine how big the game will be in the north in 20 years. "It's going to be awesome," he said.
As for his team, Ujiri said he's content with where the Raptors currently find themselves: a contender in the East with flexibility and options in the future.
"We're happy that we have a bunch of cap space coming up in the next couple of years. We have our draft picks," he said.
Ujiri also hinted at a potential homecoming:
Andrew Wiggins, anyone? Let the speculation begin.
Sticking to the present, Ujiri said he's hoping his Raptors face the Nets in the playoffs after last year's seven-game battle, which Brooklyn won. And he's standing by his "Fuck Brooklyn" comment, which he was eventually fined for.
"Trust me, I ain't taking that back," Ujiri said. "And I'll say it again."
