Blazers' Matthews undergoes surgery on Achilles

Portland Trail Blazers shooting guard Wesley Matthews underwent successful surgery on his torn left Achilles tendon Wednesday, the team announced.
Matthews underwent the procedure in California and will miss the rest of the season.
Matthews ruptured the tendon in a nationally televised home game last Thursday against the Dallas Mavericks. Losing the underrated guard for the remainder of the year is a big blow to the Blazers - in addition to being a solid three-and-D guy, Matthews is a popular clubhouse leader.
Blazer teammates and coach Terry Stotts donned "With Wes" gear prior to Wednesday's showdown with the Houston Rockets, their first home game since losing Matthews.
