The Calgary Flames are taking a look at a veteran defenseman as they try to hang on to a playoff spot.
Douglas Murray joined the Flames for practice Friday after signing a professional try-out contract.
The 35-year-old tallied one point in eight games for the Cologne Sharks in Germany's Deutsche Eishockey Liga.
Calgary is in need of defensive depth after losing Norris Trophy candidate Mark Giordano to a season-ending arm injury.
Murray has 64 points in 518 career games and last played in the NHL in 2013-14 with the Montreal Canadiens, registering a pair of assists in 53 contests.
