Strengths
- High-end measurables. Posted the top result among running backs at the combine in every event except for 40-yard dash and bench press.
- Very loose ankles and hips. Cuts and jukes as well as any runner in his draft class.
- Sees the hole and makes intelligent reads.
- Runs low to the ground, slipping under tackles and avoiding big hits.
- Excellent balance.
- Reliable receiver.
Weaknesses
- Smaller than other top running back prospects in his draft class. May not have the body to hold up to 15-20 carries per game.
- Ball security is often an issue.
- Limited resume as a blocker, though indications are he has the potential to become very good in pass protection.
- Not a good fit for power running schemes.
NFL player comparison: Ahmad Bradshaw
Injuries have derailed Bradshaw's career but he was a slippery, difference-making running back who made big contributions to two Super Bowl winners as a committee back early in his career. Like Bradshaw, Abdullah will benefit if he can add muscle and functional strength as a pro - but not so much that it limits his game-changing agility.
Ideal Fit: Detroit Lions
The Lions allowed Reggie Bush to depart in free agency, so Abdullah would provide a very similar skill set with fresher legs and a cheaper contract.
Draft Projection: Rounds 2-3
