Roy Jones Jr. says Mayweather is 'more dangerous' than he was a decade ago
Roy Jones Jr. delivered some great news if you're a Floyd Mayweather fan.
Jones Jr. believes Mayweather, who will face off against Manny Pacquiao on May 2 in what some are dubbing "The Fight of the Century," could be more dangerous than he was a decade ago, as he has harnessed his full skill set at age 38.
"The fact that he can't do things at 38 that he did at 28 makes him more dangerous," Jones said to CBS Sports' Lyle Fitzsimmons. "He's always been a great puncher, but he's never had to use it because he was so much better than everyone skillfully, and he had so much athleticism that he hasn't had to depend on his punching power."
The undefeated Mayweather is known for his ability to unleash counterattacks to precision, and his power and tenacity may be enough to topple Pacquiao, according to Jones Jr.
"Pacquiao may think he'll be able to outwork him and not worry about (Mayweather's) power because he hasn't had to use it,” Jones said. "Now that he's gotten older he will use his power, and that's going to be a bigger problem for Pacquiao. Because, to me, the only way for him to beat Pacquiao is to get him out of there."
Jones Jr. boasts a 60-8 record and has captured numerous titles ranging from the middleweight to light heavyweight classes.
The winner of the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight will capture the WBA, WBC, WBO and The Ring welterweight title, adding additional layers of hype to the most anticipated fight of the century.
