Brook Lopez, Steph Curry named Players of the Week
It took seven seasons for Brook Lopez to win his first Player of the Week award in the NBA, and it couldn't have come at a better time.
Lopez was given the Eastern Conference honor for the week ending March 29 while Steph Curry earned the nod in the Western Conference.
Lopez had a terrific week, helping his Brooklyn Nets to a 3-1 mark that has them back in the eighth and final playoff spot in the East. The 7-footer averaged 28.8 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.3 blocks while shooting 57.8 percent from the floor, punctuated by a 34-point outing in a three-point victory over the Charlotte Hornets, a playoff competitor, on Wednesday.
The oft-injured Lopez has stayed on the floor for 62 games this year, averaging 16.6 points, 7.1 rebounds and 1.7 blocks while splitting his time between the starting lineup and a reserve role.
For Curry, it was more of the same and his second Player of the Week on the season. In four games – all victories, pushing the Golden State Warriors' win streak to nine – Curry averaged 30 points, 3.5 rebounds, eight assists and 1.8 steals while shooting 63.2 percent on 3-point attempts.
This may have been Curry's last chance at the award, as Golden State has little reason to play their starters big minutes down the stretch. They hold a five-game lead on the Atlanta Hawks for home-court advantage throughout the entire playoffs, thanks in large part to Curry's MVP-caliber campaign.
In 71 games, Curry is averaging 23.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, 7.9 assists and 2.1 steals while leading the league in 3-point field goals (247) and free-throw percentage (91.6 percent).
