Strengths
- Consistently the first man off the line, showcasing elite-level explosiveness and possibly the best first step in the draft.
- Proven ability to bend the edge and win on the outside. Also has the change-of-direction skills to counter back inside when an opposing offensive tackle is forced to over-set.
- Already possesses a deep arsenal of pass-rush moves that should become more effective with experience in the NFL.
- Instincts and get-off at the snap allow him to be a productive run defender on the edge, often making tackles for a loss.
- Will be a strong fit for any scheme, capable of playing the weakside defensive end in a 4-3 and outside linebacker in any front.
Weaknesses
- Can struggle to disengage when the opposing lineman is able to get his hands inside.
- Weigh-in and impressive drill performances at the combine alleviated size concerns, but adding to his frame could see him improve in running game.
- Needs to better use his strength both as a pass-rusher and run-defender.
NFL Player Comparison: Von Miller
A highly productive edge-rusher with rare athletic traits, Beasley's talents best compare to Denver Broncos linebacker Von Miller, who was quick to make his presence felt in the NFL after being selected second overall in 2011. He now has 49 sacks in 56 career games.
Like Miller, Beasley may lack the size to be an every-down defensive end in a traditional 4-3 front, but his elite speed off the edge and overall ability to get to the quarterback will have several teams targeting him at the top of the draft regardless of defensive scheme.
Ideal Fit: Jacksonville Jaguars
Desperately in need of an edge-rush presence to fill the LEO defensive end role in Gus Bradley's system, the Jaguars are a realistic and fitting spot for Beasley to come off the board at No. 3.
Beasley would line up on the weak-side edge, playing in space more than a traditional 4-3 end otherwise would. Here, he could thrive as a speed rusher and become one of the most productive players in this year's draft.
Draft Projection: Round 1 (Top 10)
