Mayweather's odds fall as Pacquiao brings in big bets
They might call him "Money" Mayweather but it looks like his opponent is the one piling up bets ahead of the much-anticipated Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao showcase at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on May 2.
A customer at the MGM Mirage placed two $50,000 bets on the underdog Pacquiao on Tuesday, David Purdum of ESPN reports. The sportsbook responded by dropping Mayweather's odds to -180. Mayweather was a -275 favorite when the fight was finalized in late February.
Sportsbook operator CG Technology also reported overall bets were 6-1 in favor of Pacquiao.
"Public on the 'dog,'" said Art Manteris, the sportsbook director of Station Casinos and a boxing expert. "Some of the best sports handicappers and guys I respect the most are on the favorite. I'm just not sure I agree with them this time."
