The Philadelphia 76ers selected Spanish center Guillermo Hernangomez with the No. 35 overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft on Thursday night.
His rights were then sent to the New York Knicks, ESPN's Chad Ford reports.
It was the second of Philadelphia's six picks on the night, with the team earlier drafting Duke center Jahlil Okafor third overall.
With many underage international prospects withdrawing from the draft at the last minute, those remaining saw their stocks rise. Teams aiming to draft someone they can stash overseas for a year or more aren't just going to deal the pick or draft someone they have to pay (or ultimately cut).
Hernangomez is a beneficiary here and appears to have good fortune following him; he shared a roster with No. 4 pick Kristaps Porzingis last year, too, getting far more attention than he would have otherwise.
That's not to say Hernangomez isn't worthy of a selection. The 20-year-old stands 6-foot-11, has a 9-foot-1 standing reach, and averaged 10 points and 5.7 rebounds for a mid-level team in the world's second-best pro league last season.
