Detroit Red Wings forward Erik Cole will miss the rest of the regular season and the playoffs due to a bruised spine.
Cole told reporters Wednesday that he has been diagnosed with a spinal cord contusion and will be shut down.
"I consulted with a few doctors last week and have been advised not to play the remainder of the season," Cole said.
"(It's) really disappointing. I was looking forward to being a part of the playoff run here and helping this team make a run at a Cup and I'm not going to be able to do that."
The 36-year-old was acquired by the Red Wings in a trade from the Dallas Stars on March 1.
He scored three goals and added three assists in 11 games with Detroit after notching 18 goals and 15 assists in 57 contests for the Stars.
