Report: Nuggets to sign Jamaal Franklin for remainder of season
The Denver Nuggets are rolling the dice that nobody wants Shavlik Randolph for the last few days of the season.
The Nuggets claimed Randolph off waivers from the Boston Celtics on Wednesday with an eye toward saving themselves about $1.2 million thanks to something of a salary floor loophole. It's expected the Nuggets will waive Randolph, risking that another team won't claim him and remove his salary from their books, which is a fairly safe bet.
With the extra roster spot, the Nuggets will sign Jamaal Franklin for the remainder of the season, according to a report from Shams Charania of RealGM. In doing so, the Nuggets will eat even further into their obligation to current roster players for being below the league's salary floor.
They'll also get a look at Franklin, who appeared in 21 games for the Memphis Grizzlies last season, averaging 1.9 points and 1.1 rebounds in 7.7. minutes.
A second-round pick out of San Diego State in 2013, Franklin spent the first part of this season in China averaging 28.5 points and 4.6 assists before returning stateside and heading to the D-League. In 21 games there, Franklin is averaging 19.2 points, 8.9 rebounds, 6.5 assists and 1.5 steals while shooting 48.3 percent.
