Panthers re-sign Jaromir Jagr to 1-year deal
The Florida Panthers have re-signed forward Jaromir Jagr to a one-year contract.
General manager Dale Tallon told reporters Sunday that Jagr's new deal will pay him about $3.5 million, not including incentives.
Sportsnet's Chris Johnston had more details about the extension.
"(I'm) thankful (that) I had a chance to play the last 20 games here," Jagr said. "A lot of people thought (I was) done, (but) those young guys gave me a little extra energy, extra life. I'm glad I can continue to play."
The 43-year-old registered 18 points after being traded to the Panthers from the New Jersey Devils for a pair of draft picks on Feb. 26.
He clicked with 21-year-old forward Jonathan Huberdeau and 19-year-old center Aleksander Barkov after the trio were united on the team's top line.
"Once he got here and he saw the talent, he (was) really on board and he (was) really excited," Tallon said Sunday.
Jagr moved into sole possession of fourth place on the NHL's all-time points list on Thursday night. He tied Wayne Gretzky on the league's career power-play goals list with his 204th on Saturday.
The 21-year NHL veteran has 1,802 points in 1,550 career regular-season games.
