Roach thinks undefeated Mayweather 'hasn't learned anything yet'
As the old sports cliche goes, you learn more from losing than winning.
This dusty old chestnut isn't necessarily applicable to every athlete, or at least pound-for-pound great Floyd Mayweather probably doesn't espouse this virtue considering his spotless 47-0 record.
Conversely, Mayweather's upcoming opponent, Manny Pacquiao, has a few losses on his ledger, and according to Pacman's trainer Freddie Roach, setbacks are an important part of the learning process.
Speaking to reporters at Pacquiao's open workout Wednesday, Roach talked about what his charge learned from a knockout loss to Juan Manuel Marquez, and the distinct lack of lessons learned by the undefeated Mayweather.
He know's he made a mistake, he paid for it. He's not really devastated that he got knocked out because he know's it's part of the sport. People do get knocked out. If you think you can't get knocked out in this sport, you picked the wrong one. I mean it can happen to anybody, Manny is a realist, he accepts it. It doesn't bother him at all, but he won't make that mistake again.
When we're in the pocket with Mayweather, we will get out of it really quick because he is fast and he is a great counter-puncher.
We do learn more from our losses than our wins, and maybe that's why Mayweather I don't think he's that good because he has no losses so he hasn't learned anything yet.
As the "Fight of the Century" draws closer to its May 2 date, Roach continues to almost single-handedly engineer the trash talk train.
