Report: Magic and Nuggets want established coaches
Interim coach James Borrego may get a shot at permanently helming the Orlando Magic, but it's more likely the organization will hire a more established coach, according to Marc Stein of ESPN.
Likely names include former NBA coach and one-time Magic player Scott Skiles, University of Florida coach Billy Donovan or even Bulls boss Tom Thibodeau, should he part ways with Chicago.
Former Sacramento Kings coach Mike Malone has also been mentioned as a possibility.
Skiles, who played for the Magic from 1989 to 1994, last coached the Milwaukee Bucks in 2012-13. Donovan is thought to be eyeing an NBA job, and would be in demand by more than one team. Borrego, for the record, told reporters this week he is confident he could coach the Magic full time.
"I absolutely believe that I can do this,'' the 37-year-old Borrego said. "My confidence is very high, and this position has forced me to get there."
Stein also reported Thursday that the Denver Nuggets will likely move on from interim coach Melvin Hunt, and have interest in Warriors assistant Alvin Gentry as well as Mike D'Antoni.
D'Antoni started his NBA coaching career with the Nuggets in 1999, lasting one season in Denver.
