Report: Redmond's job with Marlins could be in jeopardy
The Miami Marlins may look to make a dramatic change in the clubhouse if their early-season struggles aren't rectified soon.
After guiding his club to a 3-10 start this season following a winter filled with high-profile acquisitions, Marlins manager Mike Redmond's job could be in jeopardy, according to Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald.
Sources indicated that the organization is already mulling potential replacements for the third-year manager, and Wally Backman - the current manager for the New York Mets' affiliate in the Triple-A Pacific Coast League - is a possible candidate to replace Redmond.
Team owner Jeffrey Loria has shown he's not averse to radical personnel changes, and comments from outfielder Giancarlo Stanton earlier this week did little to inspire confidence in the Miami clubhouse culture.
"We're not really giving ourselves a chance, it feels like," Stanton told MLB.com's Joe Frisaro after his club's 4-1 loss to the Mets on Friday. "We've got a positive vibe, but (something) is just not there. The fire is not there, it seems like. You always want to have it. But when you're out there, and it's game time, it's just nothing there -- it seems like."
After signing Stanton to a record-breaking 13-year, $325-million extension this winter, the Marlins beefed up their roster considerably in an effort to snap an 11-year playoff drought.
