RG3 on Redskins picking up 2016 option: 'It'll work out either way'
Robert Griffin III is at a crossroads in his career right now, unsure of what his future with the Washington Redskins holds.
The Redskins have until May 3 to exercise the fifth-year option on Griffin's contract for 2016, but the team has given little indication of what it plans to do.
Griffin knows it's out of his control, though, and is focused on the here and now.
"This could be the final year of my contract," Griffin told NFL Media's Jeff Darlington in a wide-ranging interview. "But I can't let that stress me out. We've hurt ourselves these past few years, between coaching changes and other situations, so now it's just about stripping it down. Having fun. Enjoying each other.
"There is no question: We all want to win."
Griffin's option would pay him roughly $16 million, which, given his injury history, makes it a risky move for the Redskins. Regardless of what the team decides to do, Griffin knows he has an important season ahead of him.
"I wouldn't be bummed," Griffin said when asked if he would be upset if his option isn't picked up. "Either way, we're going out there to prove it this upcoming year - not next year. I just want to win. I want to win games and have fun doing it. The rest will take care of itself.
"They can pick up the option - or they can decide not to pick up the option. It'll work out either way. I'm focused on this year."
