Nets activate Mirza Teletovic 3 months after blood clots ended season
Mirza Teletovic's season was supposed to be over.
Back on Jan. 23, the Brooklyn Nets ruled their power forward out for the season after blood clots were discovered in his lungs. Teletovic was expected to need six months of recovery time while blood-thinners did their job, effectively ending his season.
The Nets activated Teletovic ahead of Wednesday's Game 2 battle with the Atlanta Hawks, just three months into that six-month recovery period.
While it remains possible that head coach Lionel Hollins won't use his stretch four - he'd wavered on the pros and cons of activating him earlier in the day - Teletovic is a nice matchup piece against a stretchy Hawks team that likes to use bigs on the perimeter. Even if he needs a few games to knock the rust off, he could be a valuable piece for the shooting-starved Nets.
In 40 games before the medical emergency, Teletovic averaged 8.5 points and 4.9 rebounds, knocking down 32.1 percent of his 3-point attempts. He's a 36.2-percent career outside shooter and hit at a 33.9-percent clip in the playoffs last year.
