Gronkowski on Deflategate joke: 'Maybe the President was wasted'
Barack Obama hosted the New England Patriots at the White House on Thursday to celebrate their Super Bowl XLIX win, and couldn't resist dropping a Deflategate joke into his opening speech.
"I usually tell a lot of jokes at these things, but with the Pats in town, I was afraid that 11 out of 12 of them would fall flat," Obama said.
When asked about the joke afterwards, Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski jokingly wondered whether the President had enjoyed a drink or two before the speech.
"Maybe the President was wasted from his deflate joke," Gronkowski said, via Phil Perry of CSNNE.com. "We're still wondering as an organization about that, right?"
The Patriots' resident party animal was also asked why he didn't bust a move during the speech.
"Yeah, you know, if they put some tunes on I would've whipped out some dance moves," Gronkowski said. "But Chandler (Jones) wasn't singing, he usually sings. Julian (Edelman) usually does the beat boxing. But they were scared so there was no dancing today, baby."
