Sharks select Timo Meier with the 9th overall pick

The San Jose Sharks selected Timo Meier with the ninth pick in the 2015 NHL Draft.

Meier, a big-bodied forward with a scoring touch, is the second-highest Swiss-born player to be drafted into the NHL. He will be a key figure for the Sharks as they transition past the old guard.

Meier is a very gifted offensive force, but can be relied upon in all zones of the ice. He has a very accurate and hard snap shot, but has a knack for finding open teammates as well. 

After tallying just 17 goals in his first year of junior, Meier was asked by his coach to put on some size. He did just that, now coming in at 209 pounds - good for an offensive winger.

What the scouts are saying:

"He's a solid and strong skater both with and without the puck, has high-end hockey sense, and reads the play very well," Director of NHL Central Scouting Dan Marr said. "He competes and works smart on plays and is very effective in 1-on-1 situations."
