Report: Magic may be holding out for Thibodeau to fill coaching vacancy
The Orlando Magic are stalling in their search for a new head coach, perhaps because their intended target is still busy with the playoffs.
The Magic have yet to interview anyone for their coaching vacancy, reports Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel. Currently, only interim head coach James Borrego, who led the team to a 10-20 record following the dismissal of Jacque Vaughn, is slated for an interview.
Robbins reports that executives around the league believe the Magic are waiting on the fate of head coach Tom Thibodeau, whose future with the Chicago Bulls is reportedly in peril.
For the time being, Thibodeau is preparing the Bulls for a second-round matchup with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Thibodeau fits the Magic's bill for many reasons.
First, reports indicate that the Magic are seeking a candidate with experience, of which Thibodeau has plenty.
Second, Thibodeau's track record as an assistant in Boston, then as a head coach in Chicago, is certainly impressive. Thibodeau's defensive schemes helped the Celtics to a title and the Bulls boast a combined record of 255-139 (64.7 win percentage) across five seasons under Thibodeau.
If Thibodeau is out of the picture, the Magic are also reportedly interested in Scott Brooks and Scott Skiles.
