- Rafael dos Anjos put the entire world on notice at UFC 185 in March, bulldozing then lightweight champion Anthony Pettis for five rounds en route to a lopsided unanimous decision victory. Few title seizures in UFC history have been so brutal and one-sided.
- Donald Cerrone and Khabib Nurmagomedov were set to clash at UFC 187 with the winner likely getting a title shot, but a knee injury suffered by Nurmagomedov derailed the fight, and Cerrone will now tangle with talented Canadian striker, John Makdessi.
- While the winner of an upcoming bout between Eddie Alvarez and Gilbert Melendez won't be thrust directly into a title fight, it is a spectacular matchup between two relevant, top-10 155-pounders.
