- In one of the most feverishly anticipated bouts of the year, dominant featherweight overlord Jose Aldo will defend his title against impossibly brash Irishman Conor McGregor at UFC 189 in July.
- Chad Mendes solidified his stature as the best featherweight on the planet not named "Jose" when he absolutely demolished fellow former title challenger Ricardo Lamas at UFC Fight Night 63 on April 4.
- Max Holloway pushed himself into the title picture with a stellar performance against Cub Swanson at UFC on FOX 15. "Blessed" used his technically superior standup to pick Swanson apart for two-plus rounds before forcing the Jackson-Winekljohn product to tap out with a picture-perfect guillotine choke.
- With champion Jose Aldo otherwise occupied, former lightweight kingpin Frankie Edgar is staying active with a superfight against bantamweight contender (and former WEC 145-pound champion) Urijah Faber.
