Manny Pacquiao could face disciplinary action for hiding shoulder injury
Manny Pacquiao could be disciplined by the Nevada Athletic Commission for not disclosing a significant shoulder injury prior to his fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Pacquiao threw far fewer punches in the loss than in many of his previous fights, perhaps an indication he was hindered by the injury. The 36-year-old fighter will reportedly undergo surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff.
A day before the fight, Pacquiao checked "no" on a commission questionnaire asking if he had a shoulder injury, according to Tim Dahlberg of the Associated Press.
"We will gather all the facts and follow the circumstances," NAC chairman Francisco Aguilar said Monday. "At some point we will have some discussion. As a licensee of the commission you want to make sure fighters are giving you up-to-date information."
Two hours before the fight, Pacquiao's team reportedly requested he be permitted to take an anti-inflammatory shot in his shoulder. The request was denied, as there was no record of any injury to his shoulder.
Pacquiao faces a possible fine or suspension for not disclosing his injury.
