Report: Nuggets willing to deal Ty Lawson this offseason due to soured relationship
Everything lives forever on the Internet.
A poorly thought-out Instagram comment may have ended Ty Lawson's time as a member of the Denver Nuggets.
Last week, Lawson allegedly responded to a fan's request that he come play for the Dallas Mavericks by posting "I wish," something theScore could not verify (he has since deleted the comment) but is believed to have made waves within the Nuggets' organization.
The post has been "burned into the organization's head," according to a report from Christopher Dempsey of The Denver Post and Lawson is available via trade as a result.
It had previously been rumored that Lawson wanted out of Denver, as Lawson clashed with former head coach Brian Shaw, leading to speculation that Lawson was giving less than full effort. He also has a long list of off-court issues, having missed several meetings and practices over the last two years and also getting arrested on suspicion of DUI.
The Nuggets quietly tested the trade market for him ahead of the deadline and general manager Tim Connelly called for Lawson to "grow up" after no trade materialized.
If he's back on the block, the market for him could be muted as a result of the off-court issues and a shrinking list of teams in need of point guard help. But several teams, the Houston Rockets, Sacramento Kings and Boston Celtics among them, could look to strike for a discount, speculates Grantland's Zach Lowe, one of the most dialed-in analysts when it comes to such matters.
Lawson has flaws, but with just two years and $25.6 million left on his deal, he could represent a buy-low option.
In 75 games this season, the 27-year-old averaged 15.2 points and 9.6 assists while knocking down 34.1 percent of his threes.
