Redskins GM says Matt Jones reminds him a lot of Marshawn Lynch
The Washington Redskins may have found themselves Beast Mode 2.0 in Matt Jones.
General manager Scot McCloughan told ESPN 980 that he sees a lot of similarities between Jones and Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch.
"Matt Jones reminds me a lot - a lot - of Marshawn from the standpoint that he's north-south, he's downhill and he's not afraid of contact," McCloughan told ESPN 980 on Thursday, according to Tarik El-Bashir of CSN Washington.
It may be a tad early to start comparing Jones, a third-round pick out of Florida, to one of the NFL's best running backs, but McCloughan is very familiar with Lynch: he was with the Seahawks' front office when they acquired Lynch from the Buffalo Bills in 2010.
"He's going to hit you and he's going to keep hitting you until you get tired of tackling him," McCloughan said of Jones's running style.
Jones is expected to act as a complement to starter Alfred Morris next season as Washington develops a more physical run game under new offensive line coach Bill Callahan.
"It's very important for our offense to be able to run the football," McCloughan said. "Jay (Gruden) is on board. Bill Callahan is on board. We need to dominate the line of scrimmage, and the fact that (Jones is) going to come in - same with Alfred - and he's gonna hit you and keep hitting you, it's a good one-two punch, for sure."
