VIDEO: Jeff Teague misses buzzer-beater, sends Cavs-Hawks to OT
With 17.1 seconds to play and the score tied 104-104, their season on the line in a 2-0 series hole, the team-first Atlanta Hawks had to call on somebody.
That somebody was Jeff Teague, who had a team-high 23 points and seven assists to that point. Teague made sense as the call with Kyle Korver sidelined, Al Horford ejected, and the Hawks wanting to hold for last shot to prevent the Cleveland Cavaliers from getting their own chance at a game-winner.
Teague predictably drew LeBron James as his check, requiring a screen rather than a straight isolation play. DeMarre Carroll worked admirably to provide Teague with separation from James, giving the point guard a relatively clean look from long range.
But Teague, a 34.1-percent career 3-point shooter, found iron, sending Game 3 into overtime.
The Hawks needed the road victory desperately, as no team has ever come back from a 3-0 series deficit in the history of the NBA. That proved to be as good a chance as they were going to get, with the Hawks ultimately losing 114-111 in overtime.
