6 of 7 FIFA officials charged refuse extradition to US
United States authorities will have to submit a formal extradition request within 40 days after six of the seven FIFA officials facing charges opposed being extradited, according to the Swiss justice ministry.
The Associated Press also reports that the unidentified member who did not oppose the procedure will be sent to the U.S. in the coming days.
The six officials refused extradition Wednesday during court hearings, just hours after their early-morning arrest at a luxury hotel by the Department of Justice in Zurich, Switzerland.
The seven officials include: Jeffrey Webb of the Cayman Islands, Eugenio Figueredo of Uruguay, Eduardo Li of Costa Rica, Julio Rocha of Nicaragua, Costas Takkas of Britain, Rafael Esquivel of Venezuela and Jose Maria Marin of Brazil.
All officials, including five sports media and promotions executives, are facing corruption charges that include more than $150 million in bribes.
