VIDEO: Mets' Colon collects 2nd career extra-base hit with RBI double
Bartolo Colon has struggled on the mound of late, fashioning an 8.44 ERA over his last four starts, but the veteran right-hander continued his torrid stretch at the plate in Sunday's series finale against the Miami Marlins.
The 42-year-old entered Sunday's contest with a robust .105 batting average - his best since 2005 - and showed some unexpected pop in his first plate appearance against the Marlins at Citi Field. In the bottom of the second inning, Colon stroked a double into center field off right-hander David Phelps, affording the Mets an early 2-1 lead with the second extra-base hit of his 18-year career.

Colon, who now has two extra-base hits in 196 plate appearances, also extended his hitting streak to two games with his second-inning double, tying a career-high accomplished on four previous occasions, most recently from June 18-24, 2014.
Though Mets general manager Sandy Alderson described Colon's at-bats as a source of "comic relief" earlier this month, it's unlikely Phelps saw the humor as Colon lumbered into second base, smirking at his 96-mph exit velocity.
