Report: Maple Leafs interviewed Kelly McCrimmon for front office position
The Toronto Maple Leafs may be dipping a toe back into the junior hockey pool as they continue to shore up their front office.
Brandon Wheat Kings general manager and coach Kelly McCrimmon interviewed for a front office position with the club last week, according to Bob McKenzie of TSN.
And apparently he's in pretty high demand.
McCrimmon has been with the Western Hockey League's Wheat Kings since 1988, overseeing one of the more successful programs in Canadian major junior hockey.
Since Brendan Shanahan took over as team president, the Maple Leafs have dug into the junior ranks in their attempts to shore up the management side of things, adding the likes of Mark Hunter (director of player personnel) from the OHL's London Knights and Kyle Dubas (assistant general manager) from the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds.
The former is believed to be a front-runner to assume GM duties, with McCrimmon potentially joining the staff in some capacity.
The Wheat Kings are expected to challenge for the Memorial Cup in 2016, however, meaning he may be reluctant to leave his post at this point in time.
