The NHL Competition Committee has recommended a coach's challenge, and vouched for the expansion of video review.
As per the recommendation finalized Thursday in New York, coaches can challenge offsides and goaltender interference on scoring plays as long as they haven't used their timeout.
Despite a "considerable discussion," the committee was unable to reach unanimity for a proposed alteration to the current overtime and shootout format. The issue will continue to be discussed in the coming months.
The proposed rule changes must be approved by the NHLPA's executive board and NHL Board of Governors before implementation.
