Draymond Green records Game 6 triple-double, smiles at timing with free agency
Draymond Green's mother and grandmother should get on his case more often.
After three ugly games to start the series, Green has rebounded in a major way since, citing conversations with his family as the impetus for his being able to fight through back spasms.
He saved his best for a series-clinching Game 6 on Tuesday, recording the second triple-double of his career.
With 6:01 left to play, Green found Andre Iguodala for a three, giving him his 10th assist of the game. He would finish with 16 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists, shooting 6-of-13 from the floor and kicking in three steals for good measure.
While Green is a fine all-around player, a finals triple-double was unexpected. Green averaged 11.7 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 3.7 assists during the regular season and entered Tuesday averaging 12.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, and four assists in the series. Double-digit assists is something Green had only accomplished once before in three years as a pro, when he recorded his only other triple-double on Jan. 2.
Luckily for Green, Steph Curry wasn't around to steal any of his rebounds this time. Bro.
Green's resurgence also helped swing the series back in favor of the Golden State Warriors, and his Game 6 performance helped bring the organization their first championship in 40 years.
"They said 'He doesn't have a skill that stands out,'" Green said following the game, after shouting to his mom like Rocky yelling to Adrian. "I have heart, and that stands out. I'm sitting here as an NBA champion."
The timing of his series turnaround - he's a restricted free agent this summer, due for an enormous raise - was not lost on Green when it was brought up.
That's known as the "cut the check" face.
