The Boston Bruins selected defenseman Brandon Carlo with the 37th overall pick in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.

Overview

At 6-foot-5 and 196 pounds, Carlo isn't quite as imposing as towering NHL defensemen Tyler Myers and Zdeno Chara, but he uses his body to neutralize opposing forwards in a similar manner and plays under control in the offensive zone.

Carlo dropped from No. 16 at the midterm to No. 25 in the final ranking of North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting.

He does have weaknesses, but the American-born blue-liner is mobile for his size and isn't just a big body.

He's a skilled passer and skater who has experience at the international level, representing the U.S. at the 2015 World Junior Hockey Championship and the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament in 2013-14.

What the Scouts are Saying

"He's a really good skater and has great mobility for a player his size," John Williams of NHL Central Scouting said.

"The reach and range are there. He handles the puck well and is one of the best guys I've seen this year at being able to pass off the boards to a teammate.”
