Report: Kings GM Dean Lombardi expected to oversee USA's World Cup team
Kirby Lee / USA Today
Dean Lombardi appears set to take his team-building skills to the world stage.
The Los Angeles Kings general manager is believed to be the front-runner to lead Team USA for the 2016 World Cup, according to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet.
Lombardi has been the Kings' GM since 2006, winning the first two Stanley Cups in franchise history since taking over the job.
He also served as part of USA Hockey's advisory group for the 2010 and 2014 Winter Olympics, helping in the player and staff selection process.
For the time being, Lombardi will focus on re-tooling his Kings in an attempt to rebound from a season that saw the team miss out on a playoff spot.
