Ducks trade for Bieksa, hire MacLean as assistant
Anaheim, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Anaheim Ducks acquired defenseman Kevin Bieksa from the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday in exchange for a second-round draft pick in 2016.
The Ducks also announced the hiring of former Ottawa Senators coach Paul MacLean as an assistant coach.
Bieksa, 34, has played all 10 of his NHL seasons for Vancouver, collecting 56 goals and 185 assists in 597 games. He had four goals and 10 assists in 60 games last season.
MacLean was fired in December after going 114-90-35 in parts of four seasons as Ottawa's coach. The Senators were 11-11-5 at the time of his firing and ended up making the playoffs as the No. 4 seed in the Eastern Conference.
MacLean, who won the 2013 Jack Adams Award as the NHL's top coach, served as an assistant coach with the Ducks for two seasons from 2002-04. He joins Bruce Boudreau's coaching staff, which also includes assistants Trent Yawney and Scott Niedermayer.
