The San Antonio Spurs wasted no time in taking care of their most important piece of offseason business on Wednesday, locking up small forward and reigning Defensive Player of the Year Kawhi Leonard to a five-year max extension.
Leonard, it turns out, took care of his own interests as well, negotiating a player option for the fifth year of the deal, according to Grantland's Zach Lowe.
Leonard's deal will reportedly pay him just north of $90 million, an amount that, given the impending salary cap boom and the 24-year-old's considerable and ever-improving two-way skills, should look like an absolute bargain in a year or two.
