Point guard J.J. Barea is working out the details of a new deal that would see the 31-year-old return to the Dallas Mavericks, according to TNT's David Aldridge.
This comes on the heels of an earlier report from Aldridge that had Barea leaning towards signing a free-agent contract with the Miami Heat.
Miami's point guard depth should be the least of their worries after recently coming to terms on a five-year, $90-million deal with Goran Dragic. With Mario Chalmers and Shabazz Napier backing him up off the bench, there may not have been enough minutes to feed all of those mouths if Barea entered the fray.
With the Mavericks, Barea could have a legitimate shot to claim the starting point guard role, with Rajon Rondo seemingly out of the picture.
That role becomes increasingly more fun with DeAndre Jordan on the verge of accepting a four-year, $80-million offer from the Mavericks, which the 6-foot-11 center will reportedly confirm on Friday evening.
In 77 appearances last season, Barea averaged 7.5 points and 3.4 assists, shooting 42 percent from the field and finishing the year with a career-best 15.1 PER.
