The New Orleans Pelicans are looking to reunite the core group that spearheaded their first playoff appearance since 2011.
Having already reached agreements with Anthony Davis, Omer Asik and Alexis Ajinca, the Pelicans also secured a deal with forward Dante Cunningham, Marc Stein of ESPN reports.
Cunningham will earn $9 million over the next three seasons, according to Shams Charania of RealGM, with the final year being a player option.
Cunningham is a journeyman that's spent time with five different teams across his six-year career. He latched on with the Pelicans midway through last season, splitting his time between power forward and small forward.
The 28-year-old profiles as a persistent defender with some abilities as a midrange pick-and-pop big. He averaged 5.2 points and 3.9 rebounds in 25 minutes across 66 games in New Orleans last season.
Like all of the Pelicans' moves this summer, Cunningham's contract is a bit rich. But ultimately, with the cap slated to rise, Cunningham's deal is an acceptable cost for a serviceable forward.
