Free agency is cutthroat.
When former Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge's contract expired, teams could not wait for their opportunity to woo the 29-year-old.
Enter the Phoenix Suns, who stepped up the courting competition in a big way.
Mayor Greg Stanton announced on Twitter that Aldridge would be featured on a banner in downtown Phoenix, clad in Suns gear.
But this is free agency, and nothing is guaranteed.
Aldridge announced on Saturday that he will be suiting up for the San Antonio Spurs after just two dinners, and no banners.
As for the banner? The city has an environmentally friendly solution to the embarrassment.
