The Dallas Mavericks are engaging the Los Angeles Lakers on sign-and-trade options for unrestricted free agent point guard Jeremy Lin, according to Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski.
Lin is not expected to be back with the Lakers, and Sunday's report of the addition of Lou Williams should secure that. The Mavericks don't have a starting point guard with Rajon Rondo moving on, and Lin could fit the bill. However, as Wojnarowski notes, the Mavs are low on cap space and probably can't sign him to a market-level deal.
On Saturday, ESPN's Marc Stein said Dallas was continuing to pursue Lin. His friendship with Chandler Parsons from their Houston Rocket days is an apparent factor in Lin's desire to join the Mavericks. Wojnarowski adds that Lin sees the Mavs as the best opportunity to reignite his career.
Parsons, interestingly, is expected to assume more point forward duties with the team next season with Rondo and ball-dominant shooting guard Monta Ellis gone.
Lin was not a great fit in his one season with the Lakers, averaging 11.2 points and 4.6 assists per game.
