Two of the Boston Celtics' key free-agent acquisitions are now officially locked up, with the team announcing the signing of Amir Johnson and re-signing of restricted free agent Jonas Jerebko on Thursday.
It had previously been reported that Johnson would be coming to Beantown on a two-year, $24-million deal, while Jerebko would return for $10 million over two seasons.
Johnson was a key contributor for the Toronto Raptors over the past six seasons, often recognized by fans and teammates alike as being the heart and soul of the roster. He averaged 9.3 points and 6.1 rebounds for the Atlantic Division champions last season, battling two wonky ankles for the better part of his campaign.
“Amir is a proven, young veteran and an exciting addition to our team,” said president Danny Ainge in the team's press release. “His length, athleticism, rebounding and shooting ability will help us on both ends of the court."
Jerebko averaged 7.1 points and 4.8 rebounds in 18.2 minutes per game for Boston after being dealt from the Detroit Pistons in a trade deadline exchange which sent Tayshaun Prince back to the Motor City.
The two power forwards will compete for the starting 4 spot with Brandon Bass heading to Hollywood to suit up for the Los Angeles Lakers.
David Lee will also be in the mix after coming over from the Golden State Warriors in a trade for Gerald Wallace, although that deal has yet to be formally announced.
