The New York Knicks want him to re-sign, but Alexey Shved has decided to change his team in the name of happiness and enjoyment.
Shved's agent Obrad Fimic told international basketball reporter David Pick that his client has declined the Knicks' overtures. Instead, Shved will field other offers, with a return to Europe also possibly in the cards.
An earlier report suggested that the Knicks could use their room exception - worth $2.8 million - to retain Shved.
The 26-year-old opened last season with the Philadelphia 76ers, but was then moved to the Houston Rockets before being flipped once more to the Knicks. He was limited by injuries during his tenure in New York, but in 16 games, Shved averaged 14.8 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.6 assists on a PER of 20.5.
The Knicks made four signings this summer that should help the team to a comeback campaign. Factor in improved health for Carmelo Anthony and Jose Calderon, and the Knicks could be a fringe playoff contender.
That being said, Shved has spent all but nine games of his career playing on teams like the Minnesota Timberwolves, 76ers and Knicks, so perhaps he would like a chance to compete. Returning home to Europe could also hold some intrigue. Shved played for CKSA Moscow for seven seasons before moving to the NBA.
