VIDEO: Montrezl Harrell closes out summer league with a lot of dunks
We told you that Montrezl Harrell is the king of Vines. No, seriously. The king.
Anyone who was still sleeping on that after the Houston Rockets selected him 32nd overall in the draft got a wake-up call at Las Vegas Summer League on Friday.
Harrell was throwing down everything, finishing his best showing of the tournament with 24 points on 12-of-25 shooting, along with 12 rebounds and a pair of blocks. Most of the points came by way of highlight-reel plays.
The Louisville product finishes up in Vegas averaging 16.5 points, eight rebounds, one assist, one steal, and 1.3 blocks while shooting 48.1 percent over four games. As a 21-year-old junior, Harrell was expected to perform well in such an environment, and the results were encouraging.
The Rockets have yet to lock up their second-round pick and could be facing a roster crunch. Houston has 12 guaranteed deals and two non-guaranteed deals already on the books, and still needs to fit Harrell and restricted free agent K.J. McDaniels on the 15-man roster, meaning someone currently penciled in has to go.
That could conceivably be Harrell, but it seems unlikely given his draft standing and his ability to play spot minutes in the frontcourt right away.
