Raptors officially sign Biyombo to multi-year deal
The Toronto Raptors have officially added center Bismack Biyombo to their roster, signing the 6-foot-9 Congolese native to a multi-year contract.
The deal is reportedly for two years and $6 million.
The signing was first reported July 4, but with team cap calculations was not made official until now. From a glass-half-full perspective, Biyombo can be viewed as a solid value play for the Raptors, who figure to use him as their fourth big, and backup to center Jonas Valanciunas.
Biyombo is an excellent defender who should help shore up one of Toronto's weaknesses last season on the defensive glass.
He remains offensively challenged however, possessing shaky hands and no real touch around the basket. Another upside is the fact he only turns 23 next month, and for the price, taking a two-year flier on the No. 7 pick in the 2011 draft is worth it.
