The Columbus Blue Jackets aren't giving up their pursuit of a defenseman.
After swinging and missing on a trio of blue-liners, the club has reportedly been in talks with free agent Christian Ehrhoff, according to Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Post-Dispatch.
Sources have told The Dispatch that the Blue Jackets and free agent defenseman Christian Ehrhoff have had discussions, and that a deal could come together if Ehrhoff sits on the market long enough for his price to come down.
Put another way: if Ehrhoff stays jobless long enough to get nervous, he could significantly lower his asking price to make sure he has a chair when the music stops.
Ehrhoff's agent, whose client is coming off a one-year, $4-million deal, said the defenseman is amenable to another short-team deal, provided he's able to suit up for a competitive club.
Limited in Pittsburgh due to various injuries, including a concussion, Ehrhoff scored three goals and added 11 assists in 49 games.
At full health, Ehrhoff remains a high-end defenseman with the ability to quarterback the power play, an area of need for a Blue Jackets team looking to rebound after a down, injury-plagued season of their own.
