Lawson's agent: Ty is 'real excited' to join Rockets
Ty Lawson currently has more important matters to tend to than basketball, but on the court, the star point guard is happy to be headed to Houston.
"He's excited," Lawson's agent, Happy Walters, told Mark Berman of FOX 26 Sports about the reported deal to send the longtime Denver Nuggets guard to the Houston Rockets. "I spoke to him once about it. He's close with James (Harden), tight with Corey (Brewer), knows Trevor (Ariza) and Dwight (Howard), and is real excited," he said.
Lawson, who was arrested last week on suspicion of driving under the influence - his second DUI offense in 2015 - was ordered to spend 30 days in an alcohol rehabilitation program by a Denver judge on Friday.
The 27-year-old has posted career averages of 14.2 points and 6.6 assists over six seasons in Denver, and will be joining a Rockets team coming off of a Western Conference Final appearance in 2014-15.
"It's an opportunity for him," Walters said. "He's been deep in the playoffs before, but this is something he feels really good about."
Lawson, who is one of the league's top all-around offensive producers, is one of only three players to average at least 16 points and eight assists over the last four seasons. Walters made it clear the Rockets aren't just acquiring talent with Lawson.
"Super competitive," he said of his client. "Wants to win. Plays 100 per cent. Comes to work every day and plays hard."
