Quebecor submits expansion bid for NHL franchise in Quebec City
The company hoping to bring NHL hockey back to Quebec City has formally applied for an expansion franchise.
Quebecor, the media conglomerate that operates Sun Media, TVA, Videotron, and Canoe, confirmed the bid in a brief statement Monday.
We confirm that we submitted our candidacy for the #NHL expansion process in order to bring the #Nordiques back to #Québec City.

A new arena in Quebec City, the Videotron Centre, has been under construction since 2012 and is expected to be completed in September.
The original Quebec Nordiques played in the WHA from 1972-79, then joined the NHL until relocating to Denver and becoming the Colorado Avalanche in 1995.
Monday is the deadline for submitting expansion bids. There is reportedly a $10-million application fee, $2 million of which is non-refundable.
