Kentucky issued Drake cease-and-desist letter for impermissible contact with recruits
The NCAA rules have caused one more woe for Drake.
Kentucky issued the recording artist a cease-and-desist letter after he took photos with recruits at Big Blue Madness, resulting in a Level III violation.
The school's compliance office self-reported the impermissible contact between Drake and three recruits on April 27, according to a letter obtained by Sporting News' Kami Mattioli as part of an open records request.
The letter revealed the athletics directors took many measures to avoid any rule violations, informing the visiting recruits and Drake and his management that the school was not allowed to make contact between the two parties. Separate hallways were even used in an attempt to avoid the recruits crossing paths with Drake at Rupp Arena.
But after the event was a different story.
As Drake was on his way to the locker room to say goodbye to coach John Calipari, he was approached by four-star shooting guard commit Charles Matthews for a photo.
The school told the NCAA that it had "issued a cease-and-desist letter to (Drake) directing him to refrain from conversations with prospects or taking photos with prospects when that conversation or photo occurs outside the parameters established by the NCAA."
All's well that ends well, though. Since Matthews had already committed to Kentucky, the school argued to the NCAA that the contact between Drake and Matthews was not considered a recruiting advantage.
No new friends, no no no.
And no need for new friends anyway. Calipari still loves you.
